Most of our teeth( incisions, canines, premolar) have a single root while molars and wisdom teeth have multiple ones. When your tooth causes you a lot of pain, harms your health and we can not save it or restore it is better to remove it(extract). Sometimes teeth are very fragile or are impacted submerged under gum or bone. Then in order to save time and cause less damage we need to elevate the gum and remove some bone so we can free those teeth and remove them easily. Teeth with single roots if not complicated are usually easy to extract. It is done under local anaesthetic.
